چکیده
Soil erosion risk is one of the most severe environmental problems that can affect water availability, agricultural productivity and consequently countries’ sustainable development worldwide. The current study was performed in Oued El Hamma Catchment, South-Eastern Tunisia to estimate soil loss, applying Universal Loss Equation (USLE) integrated with Geographic Information System (GIS) Remote Sensing (RS) approaches. main objective this research identify vulnerable zones elaborate a map catchment. adopted approach built essentially on five factors including rainfall erosivity, topography, erodibility, field management practice vegetation cover factors. In addition, erodibility factor simulated based properties obtained via in-situ measurements sampling analysis campaigns. spatial Catchment established four distinct classes intensity loss. mean loss rate approximately 0.2 t/ha/yr. maximum area 17 t/ha/yr Matmata mountainous regions. results showed minimal catchment (99%). moderate high limited coverage observed especially South sector (< 1%) subjected greater than 5 Finally, it important note developed represents an efficient tool help decision makers evolving strategies for conservation works such arid areas where farmlands are extremely scarce.

GIS-Assisted Modelling of Soil Erosion in a South African Catchment: Evaluating the USLE and SLEMSA Approach
Soil erosion – the detachment and transportation of particles from soil aggregates by erosive agents (Stocking, 1984) – is regarded as one of South Africa’s most significant environmental problems (Meadows, 2003). In South Africa, roughly 6 million households derive all or some of their income from agriculture (South African Department of Agriculture, 2007). Roughly 25 % of the population is di...
متن کاملApplication of USLE Model & GIS in Estimation of Soil Erosion for Tandula Reservoir
Assessment of soil erosion is expensive and intensively long exercise. A number of parametric models have been developed to forecast soil erosion at drainage basins, yet Universal Soil Loss Equation, popularly known as USLE model is most widely used empirical formula for estimating annual soil loss from agricultural basins. With the advance of Remote Sensing technique it becomes possible to mea...
متن کاملUSLE-Based Assessment of Soil Erosion by Water in the Nyabarongo River Catchment, Rwanda
Soil erosion has become a serious problem in recent decades due to unhalted trends of unsustainable land use practices. Assessment of soil erosion is a prominent tool in planning and conservation of soil and water resource ecosystems. The Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) was applied to Nyabarongo River Catchment that drains about 8413.75 km² (33%) of the total Rwanda coverage and a small par...
متن کاملSoil erosion and sediment mapping in Aidoghmoush watershed appling MPSIAC model and GIS and RS technologies
Soil erosion is one of the important and worldwide environmental and economic issues. High amount of sediments accumulations behind the different structures such as dams requires several attempts to minimize their potential risks. Therefore, some quantified data will be needed in order to recognize those critical areas which requires urgent conservation. Since conventional procedures are time c...
متن کاملSoil erosion modelled with USLE and PESERA using QuickBird derived vegetation parameters in an alpine catchment
The focus of soil erosion research in the Alps has been in two categories: (i) on-sitemeasurements, which are rather small scale point measurements on selected plots often constrained to irrigation experiments or (ii) off-site quantification of sediment delivery at the outlet of the catchment. Results of both categories pointed towards the importance of an intact vegetation cover to prevent soi...
